2 min readIf revisiting simpler times brings you joy, how's this: April 2023, when we fell in love with Jury Duty, Prime Video's (technically the now-defunct Freevee, RIP) surprise hit hidden-camera comedy. The closest TV has ever come to a Truman Show-style feat, showrunner Cody Heller filmed an entire criminal trial where every single jury member (and judge, witnesses, defendant, etc.) knew they were on a TV show, except for one man: Ronald Gladden.Thankfully, the thirty-something solar contractor was a good sport, somehow keeping his cool while James Marsden (playing a version of himself) feigned genuine hurt when Gladden shaded Sonic the Hedgehog. But when fans clamored for a second season, the problem was obvious: How do you find a mark that had never heard of Jury Duty?Well, we don't know how quite yet, but Heller and his team did it again. Prime Video just dropped the first trailer for season 2, officially titled: Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat. Per Amazon, "Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat is a documentary-style comedy that captures a corporate offsite event at a family-owned hot sauce company from the perspective of Anthony, a recently hired temporary worker."Now, one of the best things about Jury Duty—aside from the obvious high-wire act that it took to pull off every waking second of the series—is that it had a sick sense of humor. Never forget that Jury Duty earnestly tasked Emmy nominee James Marsden with saying the exact words, "There is a pretty large turd, and I—don't try to flush it. It might have stirred it up a bit," followed by a shot of the pretty large turd popping up to say hello from the toilet. Add countless more moments somehow even sicker than Marsden's colossal dump (I'll never think of the word "soaking" the same) and it's no wonder why Jury Duty made Esquire's final ten best-shows-of-the-year list in 2023.
