Impermanence surrounds us. We are constantly reminded of it, and somehow we still think it doesn’t apply to us and our lives. To be fair.. maybe I’m projecting, but I think this applies to the majority of us. Maybe it’s a form of subconscious denial. On second thought, it definitely is.. or at the very least a reluctance to think about and try to rationalize what death will feel like. I think we have probably struggled with this since the beginning of consciousness. So much so that we have created/discovered/remembered (pick your preferred vintage based on the story you choose to tell yourself) countless renditions of origin stories and explanations for what happens when we die. I won’t pretend to know. What I will do is relish my time as a conscious agent. Life does not happen to us, rather it is sourced from us.. with us. I will smell the honeysuckles (roses are too fucking cliche).. I will sing.. I will love and live passionately.. I will make mistakes and live curiously.. I will curse (obviously) and laugh and struggle.. I will embrace my impermanence and imperfection, because they make me who I am. Spring and Summer subside, leaving us with Fall and Winter. While I STRONGLY prefer the warm weather of Summer, I understand the purpose of Winter. Death allows for the birth of something new and perhaps better. Endings are what give beginnings their beauty. To me, this is what it means to be Doomed. If you gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.I am Doomed. We are Doomed.Enjoy the ride and fuck the breaks. Lastly, please allow me to thank XCOPY for creating the stunning artwork known as The Doomed. Thank you for creating such a beautiful mirror for me (and perhaps yourself, as well) to gaze into. -DP
